CAMPBELL'S BAY SCHOOL.
RECENT ADDITIONS OPENED. The now addition to the Campbell's Bay School was officially opened by Sir James Parr on Saturday. There was a good attendance of parents and visitors. Sir James chose the site for the school seven years ago, being then Minister of Education. It is thought to be one of the finest sites in New Zealand. When the school was first opened there was an attendance of 15, whereas now the pupils number 65, with only room for 11 more. Mr. Vosper (chairman), Mr. Eennie and the Rev. Morgan Richards spoke in praise of the good work done by the late teacher, Mrs. Hocken, and also made complimentary reference to the work being carried on by the present teachers, Mr. Rushbrook and Miss Speight. An excellent programme of songs, folk dances and rhythms was provided by the children. Items were:—School song, "Land of Our Birth" (Kipling); sea chanteys, "Shenandoah," "The Capstan Bar"; violin 6010, Miss Johnstone; songs, "The Watcher" (Finnish melody), "Let's Seek the Bower of Robin Hood" (Old English); characteristic rhythms and folk dances, upper and lower classes. Afternoon tea was provided by the wives of committee members.
