MID-WEEK COMPETITION

ABELS RUNNERS-UP.

A "ding-dong" fight was produced in the last match of the season in the mid-week competition of the A.F.A. at Blandford Park when, at the close of normal time, Mount Albert and Abels were equal with two goals each. Extra time was then played, Abels winning by three goals to two after -a titanic struggle. Mount Albert were two goals in the lead at halftime, McAlister scoring from a pretty pass by Alan Flyger. Hunter put Mount Albert two up by a fast low drive, which beat Morris all the way. Cliff Flyger, who wae the best half-back on the field, played ' a most enterprising game, and, with Grant, did most of the work for Mount Albert.

The second spell opened with Abels determined to make up the leeway, and Mellor, beating Rush with a spectacular shot a few minutes after the resumption of play. Owens equalised for Abele shortly afterwards. Abels continued, to press,' but failed to score. The extra time was evenly contested till the last five minutes, when Crocker handled in the dreaded area.
