SOUTHERN POTATOES DEARER. NEW LOCALS COMING ON. Local supplies of Southern potatoes are rather short, and, us a. consequence, merchants' quotations have advanced 10/, to £8 10/ per ton through stole. Dealers are chary ivtiout stocking up so late in the season as local new season's are coming on rapidly, and urxt week is likely to see a marked diminution in the demand for Southern-grown. Onions. The onion market is still supplied with Canadian-grown, and a fresh shipment of substantial dimensions is due on Monday. In anticipation of more plentiful supplies at lower rates values have cased, and merchants are now quoting bags or cases at 22/6 each. Oats and Chaff. The market for horse feed is very dull, and prices for B Gartons have been lowered to 4/2 per bushel without stimulating the demand. Chaff is still quoted at £8 10/ per ton. Maize. Maize is in steady demand at 5/3 for Bay of Plenty-grown, and sixpence higher for the small quantities of South African now available. Very little is coming from Poverty Bay. Pollard and Bran. With warmer weather and luxuriant growth of pastures the demand for bran has eased, and stocks are likely to accumulate from now on. Pollard has a steady sale at recent rates.
Wheat. Australian wheat is still selling freely at about 6/2 per bushel through store, and there may be a shortage before the next shipment arrives by the Kartigi the second week in November. Wholesale Current Prices. Pollard and Bran.—Mill prices: Pollard, £6 10/ per ton; bran, £5 10/ per ton. Merchants' prices: Pollard, local, £7; Australian, £7 5/ per ton; bran, £6. Oats.—Feed: B Gurtons, 4/2 per bushel; A Gartons, '4/8; clipped .Duns, 5/; clipped Algerians, Australian, 5/; Iμew Zealand, 5/9: clipped Gartons, 4/9. Fowl Wheat.—Australian, C/ 2 per bushel; under grade New Zealand, 5/6 up." Maize.—African, 5/9; Bay of Plenty, 5/3; crushed, 5/ per bushel (501b). Barley.—Feed: Clipped, 4/3 per bushel. Seed: Cape, 6/ per bushel. Maize Meal.—lo/ per 1001b.Barley Meal.—9/ per 1001b. Chaff.—G.b.o.s., £8 10/ per ton, Blenheim or Canterbury. Potatoes.—Table: Southern, £8 10/ per ton. Seed: ' Gamekeeper, Northern Star, Arran Chief, 7/6 per cwt; Up to Dates, 0/; Dakotas. 9/; Sutton's Supreme, 10/6; Maori Chief, 10/.
