WAIKATO HUNT.

THE ANNUAL MEETING

PROTOMINT SUCCEEDS AGAIN

TROUBLE WINS HUNT CUP.

Heavy.- rain fell during yesterday morning, and- thought it eased before the first race, tl:e weather did not clear until after the second event of tho Waikato Hiuit Club was decided at Cambridge. /From, then on it was fine. In the circumstances the attendance was- really good, and patrons were provided, with some interesting racing. The couree, as the result of the deluge it received during the previous 24 hours, was heavy. Protomint, who won the Members' Memorial Handicap at the same meeting last year, and \yas "successful at the recent Avondale meeting, again scored, while Trouble won tin; Hunt Cup easily. Lord Aintree put up two good performances by winning a division of the Bardowie Handicap, and later the Bruntwood Handicap. The last race was decided behind time,- but thie was excusable owing to the heavy rain encountered during the curly part of the programme. During the day the sum of £12,344 10/ was put through the machine, compared with £14,212 for the previous meeting, a decrease of £1807 10/. Only for the weather the club would have done much better. Run in Divisions. The Bardowie Handicap was run in two divisions, owing to the field exceeding the safety number, and the dividends were paid on the winner of each division. Betting took a wide range, the bulk of the money coining for Lady Lulu (£177), Chateau (£1.73) and Book Law (£125). ' . ' .

The defections In the first division were Gay Marigold, Star Mint, Tatyoon, Transaction, Dark Rewa and Sir Musk. Chateau, BooL Law, and Lady Lulu began best from London and Searcher, and crossing the top Chateau was leading Book Law and Lady Lulu, with London, Searcher and Merry Lap next. London ran up third entering the straight, and Kahau also moved up, but over the last bit Book Law forged ahead and beat Lady Lulu by half a length; then came Chateau, a length further back. Beryl Latour, Abbey Dream, Kahau and London wero next.

In the second division, Foreign Money, Good Run, Safe Bank and Sammy were missing. Lord Aintree began best, and was never headed, Schizanthus following him over the early stages, with Illuminelli, Welcome Lu and Rekaraurau handy. The order was the same across the top, where Master Norval moved up fast, and he followed Lord Aintree into the straight, with Illuminelli and

Schizanthus next. Over the final stage Lord Aintree had -the field beaten, and got the verdict by two lengtlis from Illuminelli, who beat Master Norval by a length. Keitli Hall was fourth, then came Arawa Rose and Welcome Lu. An Easy Win. . The defections in the Members' Memorial were Valroe, Grand Tea, Eager Rose, Illuininagh and Thcspie. Protomint ( £504) was a 6taunch favourite from the Baroscope-Flying Prince bracket ( £312), with Limeen ( £255) next best backed. Chromadyne iind Baroscope led past the stand from Flying Prince, Cruachan and Protomint, and along the back Chromadyne, Baroscope and Cruachan were on terms in front of Flying Prince, Protomint, Limeen, Nassock, Sargon - and Antique. There was no change crossing the top and as they turned for home Baroscope wae leading Chromadyne with. Cruachan and Protomint close up, followed by Flying Prince and Limeen. Protomint came through on the rails in the run home and won easily by three lengths from Flying Prince, with Limeen a length away. . Baroscope, Cruachan, Chromadyne, Antique, JJassock and .Sargon -were next. The last named pulled up very lame. Favourite Wins Hunt Cup. Lady Waimarie, Te Koroke and The Roadman dropped out of the Waikato Hunt Cup, and when the machine closed Trouble ( £439) was favourite, while Absent ( £200) and Slump ( £195) also {lot support. As they passed the stand Slump had charge from jOat-i-mes, ■ Jen and Simeon. Absent lost'his rider sat the first fence of the double, where Trouble, Mashoor, Little Arch and Koewhiwhi were handy. CaVi-mes led past the stand the second time from Slump, Jen, Trouble and Simeori, but Cat-i-mes lost her rider at the second fence of the double and Jen had charge along the back with Simeon, Trouble and Slump next, about six lengths clear of Mashoor and Little Arch. Simeon slipped at the fence along the back, but made a good recovery and, racing across the top, Trouble and Jen were on terms with Slump just behind them, followed by Simeon, Mashoor and Little Arch. Trouble took charge turning for home, followed by Jen and Slump, and he went away over the last half-furlong to win by 12 lengths from Jen, who beat Slump by a head for second money. Mashoor, Simeon and Little Arch were next. Lord Aintree Completes Double, j L'Allegro, Valueless, Last Lap, Merry Lap and Welcome Lu were not saddled up for the Bruutwood Handicap, in which Lucidus' ( £523), Moonfle.et ( £245), Lady Lulu ( £IG4) and Lord Aintree ( £14*4) were best backed, the last named winning from end to end. Lucidus followed him early in the contest with Moonfleet, Lady Lulu, Welcome

Boy, Valpai, Great Britain and Senorila racing as named. Crossing- the top Lord Aintree was leading Moonflcet, Welcome Boy and Valpai, with Lueidus and Lady Lulu close up, and there was little alteration in the running as the field entered the straight, where Limex came fast on the. outside, but failed to catch Lord Aintree by a neck, with Moonfleot a eimilar .distance away. Lady Lulu was fourth, then came Senorita, Book Law and Great Britain. The Bracelet. The scratching pen was freely used in the Ladies' Bracelet, those to drop out being Thespis, Town Beauty, Emancipationf Bielaj Blooming Heather, Clontarf Hill, Cromwell, Galapago, and Tapapa. Sub-Editor ( £2(55), Valsimon ( £230) and Consort (£220) carried most. support, and the first named won nicely. Pinto began best, and led along the back from Rekaraurau, Consovt, Maunga.Jviiig and Subeditor. Entering the straight Rekaraurau, Maunga King and Abbey Dream /were on terms with Koyal Eng-

land, Consort and Sub-Editor close up. The last named moved up fast over the last furlong, and won by three-quarters of a length from' Consort, with Abbey Dream a length away. Royal England was fourth, with Maunga King, London, and Rekaraurau following in that order. Al>. tho Way. Huntingdon, Paganelli, Gigantic, Imamint and Valueless were the defections from the Bollard Memorial, with which the programme concluded. Tradesman ( £553) and (Jay Lap ( £446) were best ■backed, while Flying Prince only carried £84. Tradesman was soon in front, and in the early stages was attended by Miss Lorraine, Soloist, Valuation, Persham, Chroinadyne, Gay Lap, Cruachan and Flying Prince.
