CHURCH AND LOTTERIES. SYDNEY, October 24. The Anglican General Synod passed a resolution condemning State lotteries. A stir was caused by a Queenslander, Colonel Rawson, who contended that the lotteries in New South Wales and Queensland helped to relieve the suffering poor. Church organisations had not done the social work which should have been done, even in good times.
If vthe Church wanted to attack gambling, it should start on bookmakers, who were the principal evil in all gambling.
