GLIDING RECORD
■ tr TEST FLIGHT AT MURIWAX. DISTANCE OF 500 YARDS. It was stated by a member of the Auckland Glider Club to-day that a record for New .Zealand was made in a glider owned and constructed by Mr. P. Poynton, of Mangere, at Muriwai yesterday. Two test flights were made, and in the second a distance of 500 yards was covered. The duration of the flight was not stated. Best time hitherto registered by a glider in New Zealand is not more than two minutes, whereas the world's record is about 24 hours. The poor times registered so far in New Zealand are attributed to the fact that gliding has not yet been taken up seriously.
