As a sequel to the alleged shooting affray at Patea on Thursday, when William James Carradus was wounded in the leg by an unseen assailant, Alexader Myles, aged 26, was arrested on Saturday, and appeared in the Patea Police Court this morning on a charge of attempted murder. Accused was remanded to appear at Wanganui on November 21. Carradus, a young man employed on relief work, who, with his wife and child, occupied rooms at the residence of Mrs. Lawson in Stafford Street, Patea, went to the door in response to a knock shortly after eight o'clock on Thursday evening. As he could see no one, he walked to the side of the house and looked round. He then walked toward the back door, and just as he had readied the doorstep a shot was fired, and he fell on the doorstep with his left lef badly shattered about the knee. As he fell he saw someone running away. He was operated on in hospital, and his condition has since been reported as serious.
