ROUND THE MOUNTAIN. RACE WON BY SXOWDEN. L. HILL THE XEW CHAMPION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. The Taranaki circular cycle road race of 300 miles, held yesterday, was won by H. Snowden, New Plymouth, with B. Ayson, New Plymouth, second, and F. Belk, Inglewood, third. Fastest time was made by one of the scratch men, L. Hill, of Christchurch, who thus gains the Australian and New Zealand 100 miles road championship. R. Yardley, New Plymouth, secured second fastest time. The New Zealand junior road championship was won by Ayson. The race was run in heavy showers, with a fairly strong' westerly wind. The whole journey round the mountain was over excellent bitumen roads, which, however, were made somewhat greasy by the showers. Fifty-five competitors started, and the majority completed the course. There was an exciting finish, ten riders lieing. practically bunched. Snowden's final sprint on the racecourse carried him to the front by a length and a half. Hill's fastest time was a record, of 4h 27m 335. The previous record was 41i 49m 535, held by N. Bellringer, New Plymouth. The first ten to finish were:—H. Ilill was eighteenth, Lamberton (scr) nineteenth, and Yardley (scr) twentieth. Lamberton fell entering the racecourse and spoiled his chance of gaining fastest time.
