MAUNGAKIEKIE CLUB.
An open day was held at Maungakiekie. In the morning the qualifying round of a handicap competition was played, and concurrently a medal contest. The eight players returning the best cards qualified foi match play. They were :J. S. Rankin, 73—6—67; W. Greenbank, 78—8—70; A. Schischka, 88 —18 —70 ; C. G. Johnson, 78—6—72 ; A. Ely, 86—13—73; R. S. Newcomb, 94—20-—74 : H. Beauvals, 04— 20—74; J. Sherlock, 02—18—74. The first round resulted as follows :—W. Greenbanks beat R. S. Newcomb, 2 and 1 ; J. S. Rankin beat J. Sherlock, 3 and 1 ; C. G. Johnson beat A. Schischka, 5 and 4 ; A. Ely beat H. Beauvais, 1 up. A bogey handicap played in the afternoon was won by D. D. Holland with a good card of S up. Other cards were F. N. Laurie 2 up, E. Henton 1 up, G. Bennett 1 up, and J. McDougall, all square. The outstanding performance of the day was that of J. S. Rankin in heading the qualifying round under difficult conditions with a round of 73. J. S. Milne defeated F. T. Rostgard by 7 and 6 in the final of the C grade championship.
