TOBACCO TRADE.
PKICE CONTROL PROBLEM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A conference of representatives of the tobacco trade of the Dominion was held to-day. It was agreed to join with the Associated Chambers of Commerce in a deputation to the Government tomorrow, asking that the Board of Trade Act, the Cost of Living Act, and the Commercial Trust Act be repealed. It was contended that, by preventing the manufacturer controlling the price, ihese Acts led to a number of large firms using tobacco as a decoy for other business. A petition had been sent to Parliament asking that if the Commercial Trust Act could not be repealed it should be amended to permit the price of tobacco to the consumer to be controlled.
