Mutual Action Necessary to World Recovery. LORD READING'S VIEWS. NEW YORK, October 9. The Marquess of Reading has' arrived at New York to represent the British Bar at meetings of the International Bar group at Washington. In an interview he said an alliance between Britain and the United States would be the most factor in the history of the world toward peace.
Although Lord Reading declined to express the hope that America would join the. League of Nations, he expresses the opinion that the League would Accomplish nothing of world significance without America taking part in its conversations' and discussions and giving her aid generally. He said he envisioned a combination of Britain and the United States to lead the world back to peace and prosperity.
The visitor characterised the two countries as having the same ideals, namely, the peace of the world, decision by reason * and consultation, general prosperity arid- consequently less distress and poverty throughout the world.
