HIGH HOPES.

VICTORIAN TRADE. BIG INCREASE. Indications of a record export season are given in the huge shipments made from Victoria in the first twelve weeks of the financial year. A return issued by the Department of Agriculture showed that produce, not including wool, hides and similar products, the inspection of which is not under Government supervision, shipped from this State between January 1 and September 22, amounted to £2,956,310. This is an increase of more than £600,000 on the value of the produce, not subject to Government supervision- exported during the same period last year. During the wees ended September 22 the value of primary products exported was £445,013, as against £184,884 for the same period last year. Butter Increase. The most important item in the return is butter. The value of butter exported from Victoria for the first twelve weeks of the year was £959,144. This is an increase over the shipments of last year at this period. Last year's butter exports from the whole of the Commonwealth established a record. Since July 1 the value of lambs shipped from Victoria is £246,911, and flour £386,183.' A feature of the flour export is the large quantities purchased by Soviet Russia. In the fruit section the following figures are given:—Fresh, £20,726; dried, £432,840; canned, £62,484. Many Ships On Way. Rabbits and hares shipped during the financial year totalled 96,489 tons, or 121,334 crates. Quantities of these goods went to America. Ships of every nationality are now coming to Australia to cope with the season, which will be a record, apart from wool, hides and other important products.
