HOCKEY.
LADIES' GAMES. The senior championship under the auspices of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association was played at Remuera'on Saturday, the contesting teams being Wesley (Cup holders) and Clevedon. The game was of an even and very exciting nature, and contained many patches of bright hockey. The great pace was maintained throughout, and play eventually closed with the huge crop of nine goals being registered. With scores oven —4 apiece at the call of time—according to the rules extra time had to be played, and just on the whistl". Mrs. White found the net for Wesley, and the club annexed the championship. Clevedon opened the attack, and Mrs. T. Hyde scored. Give and take play followed, then Wesley set up determined attacks and Mrs. White scored. Wesley again attacked from the left, and with a good angle shot Miss Butler scored. A good forward movement by Clevedon found the Wesley goalie out of position, and Miss R. Shaw goaled. A few minutes' later Jlrs. White again netted for Wesley. After changing ends Clevedon quickly equalised through the agency of Miss 1. Stevens, and from the ensuing bully Mrs. White ran through and registered for Wesley. Roused by this reverse, Clevedon set up a lengthy attack, and-at last Miss R. Shaw goaled. Time was called with the scores : Wesley 4, Clevedon 4. Changing ends, Clevedon at once attacked, but the defence held. Even play followed, and in the last minute a determined attack by Wesley .ended in Mrs. White scoring. Time was called: Wesley 5, Clevedon 4. Mr. E. Watts refereed. LADIES' TOURNAMENT. Next Saturday the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association will close the season with a tournament in lieu of the usual social evening. Twelve teams have entered and the games will be of thirty minutes' duration. At the close of the tournament the trophies won during the season will be presented. The draw for the tournament will be made early next week.. The match arranged between Ngaro and Waihi was not played owing to Waihi being unable to send a team. AUCKLAND B. Y. REFEREES. The annual .match between the Auckland Ladies' B eleven and the Referees' Association was played at Rcmuera on Saturday and resulted in a drawn game of five goals apiece. The men Were handicapped, being dressed in fancy costume, and the various characters represented were well carried, out. The match provided a fund of humour for the spectators, who gladly welcomed the change after the many serious games witnessed this season. The final scores were Auckland B 5. Referees 5. Alter the game the referees entertained the ladies to afternoon tea. A bright programme that included amusing speeches by Messrs. H. Watts, C. Preston and G. Peace concluded an enjoyable afternoon.
