RACING AT CAULFIELD.
AMMON RA AGAIN BEATEN. MIDDLE WATCH'S BRILLIANT WIN. MELBOURNE, October 9. The defeat of Amnion Ra in the Quality Handicap at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago caused special interest in ths Caulfield Stakes at the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's spring meeting yesterday, but once again the New Zealand gelding failed to gain - a place, finishing fourth. The race was brilliantly won by Middle Watch,, who defeated Ammon Ra iu the V.R.C. St. Leger at Flemington last February, and has shown good form again this season. He was last in the early stages, but put in a great run from the home turn to win from the South Australian horse Induna and Havaspot's brother, Dermid. The time, 1.52%, equals the record for the race! Induiia, who is fancied for the Caulfield; Cup, finished well, .and Dermid's effort was also good. Lynden, winner of the Oby Hurdles, is trained by E. Hoysted, who won the Grand National Steeplechase last year with Rakwool.- The stewards inquired into the running of the second horse, Walter Scott, who was ridden by the ex-New Zealander H. Thompson, and the inquiry was adjourned until Monday. Results:— OBY HURDLES of 300sovs. Two miles sixty-five yards. LYNDEN, ch g, 6yrs, by Poitrel—Torbrooke (Mr. ,T. B. Shaw), 9.9— R.
