OPTIMISM ABROAD.
BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT. INSURANCE MANAGER'S VIEWS. Mr. H. W. Stokes, manager of the Sun Insurance Office, Ltd., London, arrived by, the Monterey this morning. He will inspect the company's New Zealand offices and go on to Australia and thence to Java and India. Since he left London Mr. Stokes has been in Canada, the United States and Cuba. "The Ottawa Conference seems _to have brought about a feeling of optimism," said Mr. Stokes, "and that was very much needed. Fifty per cent of the depression trouble has been psychological, and I think every business man thinks the same about it to-day." Mr. Stokes said that business appeared to be improving in America, but the Presidential election was having a disturbing influence. The Sun Office recently took over the Mercantile and Marin© Insurance Company, Ltd., Wellington.
