VIOLIN AND VOCAL RECITAL.

There was a good attendance at the Lewis Eady Hall last evening when Mr. Vincent Aspey, violinist, and Miss Edua Peace, contralto, gave a joint recital. Mr. Aspey's contributions covered a wide range of compositions for the violin. One of the most beautiful of his selections was the lovely "Andante and Finale" from Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, played with a delightful tone, combined with breadth and 6weep of phrase. Another I fine rendition was that of the first movement from Lalo's "Symphonie Espagnole," in which Mr. Aspey displayed his excellent technique. . Other selections which were appreciated by the audience were Dvorak's "Slavonic Dances in G and E Minor," "Caprice Viennois" (Kreisler), Mendelssohn' 6 melodious "On Wings of Song," and the whimsical "Rondo des Lutins," of Bazzini. Mis 6 Edna Peace's songs were of a commendably high standard, and included "Nay, Though my Heart Should Break" (Tschaikowsky), Brahms' "Sapphic Ode," delivered with nice expression, three songs by Franz, and a group of three modern sorigs, Ronald's "O, Lovely Night," Hamblen's "The Restless Sea," and "The Early Morning" (Peel). Three numbers in which Mr. Aspey played an obligato were also sung, "Softly Awakes My Heart," Bizet's "Angus Dei," and an "Ave Maria" by Kahn. In all of these Miss Peace displayed a fine depth of tone. Both performers had to give repeat numbers. The accompanists were Mr. Peter Black and Mr. George Aspey.
