One of the most appreciated of the activities carried on by Sister Esther, 011 behalf of the Presbyterian Social Ser. vice Association, at its hall in Edinburgh Street, Newton, is a girls' club. At the weekly meetings, held from 7 to 9 p.m., oil Wednesdays, as many as 80 girls, from 13 years of age upwards, attend. The large hall is well adaptetd for the musical drill, marching, and ball games which occupy the early part of the evening for the maqority of the members. Various groups prefer the quieter occupations of sewing, knitting and fancy work, for which there are classes under the direction of voluntary helpers. A reading circle and an elocution class have also been formed. A supper of sandwiches and coffee is given to the girls soon after eight o'clock, and the final half-hour is spent at vespers, with the singing of hymns, a Scripture reading and prayer. The atmosphere of the club, with its genuine merriment, and its readiness to follow the direction of those who guide the work, is admirable, and the ever-increasing attendance proves how much the club evenings are enjoyed by the girls, to whom adequate space to exercise and play is doubly welcome, after, perhaps, a cramping day spent in a factory. <
