WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

HOWICK. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting, when an address on home nursing and demonstrations in bandaging were given by Miss A. L. Wyatt, of Auckland. The tea hostesses Were Mesdames Alexander, Vause, Wyatt and Miss Motion. SILVERDALE. Mrs. Irwin addressed the members on the new constitution at the last meeting. After business was dealt with, a rollcall of household hints- produced interesting information. A one-act play, entitled "A Mail's Job," was given, the parts being taken by Mesdames Willoughby, Benny and Colhoun, and Misses Moffatt and Frith. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses,' Mesdames T. Moffatt and Teague. MAMARANUI. A meeting was held at the store hall on September 21 under the president, Mrs. Newlove. The competition, something costing not more than 1/, brought forth a number of entries, the winners being Mrs. Newlove's crochet d'oyleye, first, Mrs. Osbaldiston's child's apron, and Miee Dawes , worked d'oyley tied for second place. There, was a beautiful array of flowers in the flower competition, ' which was won by Mrs. Groome's sweet . peas; with Mrs. Baldwin's anemones second. The hostesses were Misses Dawes and Dacker.v FAIRFIELD. Mrs. Hubbard, vice-president, presided at the September meeting pit Wednesday last. .Visitors were welcomed from Hillcrest institute. Mrs. .Chapman' Was nominated for the Federation Executive Committee. A useful demonstration was given by Mrs. Lovet.t on- rug-making from old silk stockings. -Quite a number of knitted squares were brought along to make warm quilts for the needy. The roll call, "Sing, say, or pay," brought forth amusing and interesting items, and quite a few pennies. A competition, arranged by the hostesses,.-.was won by Mesdames Shannon and' A. King. The motto for the month was "Be Tolerant." Tito competition for next meeting is to be "The most useful article made from a flour bag." Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses,' Mesdames McJlinuon, and Loyett,..and Hiss. McMiken,
