THE DERBY WINNER.

PARTICULARLY FINE COLT. GAINE CARRINGTON ENCOUNTERS TROUBLE. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Commenting on the A.J.C. Derby, the "Morning Herald" says: "Saturday's racing, proved beyond doubt that the winner of the A.J.C. Derby is a particularly fine colt. Unfortunately New Zealand's representative Gaine Carrington encountered all sorts of-trouble and was never really in the race. Whatever the balance of opinion mav be about the relative qualities : of Peter Pan and Gaine Carrington, it I clearly rests on conjecture, but quite as clearly the New Zealander would have to be all that his friends claim him to be, and perhaps a little better, to have beaten Peter Pan. The winner ran the journey very smoothly arid stuck to his task at the end with fine courage. Particularly meritorious also was the performance of Oro." The "Telegraph" says: "Peter Pan is likely to develop into a great stayer. In addition to being a genuine stayer he has lots of pace." v •'
