J. q™™^~~.: rnALKS TO TNVESTORS. N O, 3~S PECULA TIVE gIIARES. .- There is generally classed under this name shares in Companies which have bo concreto assets or tangible business or undertaking to support them, aud which " nro of their very nature somewhat of "t----gamble." Mining shares, shares in Companies for the exploitation of Patents and similar ventures readily fall into this cate gory, but, although not generally realised ali shares in new Companies or Companies about to be formed (unless such Companies are taking over established businesses or industrial undertakings) should be included under the heading of Speculative Shares for the new flotations which ever succeed In carrying cut the alluring promises made » to Investors, or even continue to exist leave alone reach ing a dividend-producing-stage, are, unfortunately, very few and far between. There are three axioms which should be remembered by all persons who are ever tempted to take up Speculative Shares, and they are as follows:— (1) NO PERSON SHOULD EVER INVEST IN SPECULATIVE SHARES OF ANY KIND WHO IS NOT PREPAED TO LOSE THE WHOLE OF HIS OR HER MONEY'' IF THE VENTURE FAILS. The person who has a small amount of capital saved, and who cannot wpII nfiord to lose it, or any part of it. should shun entirely shares in Mining Ventures. Patent concerns, and the like, and all shares in new Companies which are not thoroughly established and proved to be sound. (2) IF YOU ARE INCLINED TO TAKE TJP SHARES IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN ATTRACTIVE NEW PROPOSITION, or in ANY MINING OR PATENT VENTURE, pnd can afford the risk,. BE SURE BEFORE YOU DO SO THAT YOU HAVE A CHANCE OF WINNING. In the majority of propositions which come before the public, " the dice are loaded " against the Investor before commencement,'and he never has a gambler's chance. Before investing, not only innkp the most thorough independent searching inquiries, but seek the ndvice of those skilled and competent to judge. - (3) IF YOU DO SPECULATE, AND THE SHARES YOU BUY RISE IN VALUE, SELL AT ONCE AND TAKE YOUR PROFIT. Persons who have bought shares which rise in value are always tempted to hang on with the desire of obtaining still more profit, and generally with disastrous results. Be satisfied with-a-, small profit. Never mind if the shares go still higher. You have your profit and your money free. The chances, are if you do wait for big things they will never materialise, and you will lose. To these three axioms there might be.. added one more—lf you are fortunate in one venture don't make a practice of speculating, for you will lose eventually, too matter how clever or 'careful you are, just as - surely as the man who continually backs horses must lose The careful Investor will find it much better, and he will be a richer man in the long run, if he leaves speculation entirelyalone. • ■ ■ '.'
