PARLEY WITH BANDITS
Immunity Asked for Captors of
Kidnapped Britons. REQUEST TO JAPAN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, September 21. The British Consul at Mukden is negotiating with General Muto, the Japanese Commander-in-Chief in Manchukuo, concerning the release of Mrs. M. Pawlev and Mr. C. Corkran, the British employers kidnapped by bandits. He asked the Japanese military authorities to guarantee the bandits immunity conditional on the release of the captives, and also asked the Japanese to refrain from obstructing the Chinese intermediary *n° is at present in touch with the bandit gang. ' General Muto replied that-the question of immunity needed consideration, though he promised to urge Manchukuo lot to interfere with the intermediary.
