MONKEY SCAVENGERS.
It is reported _ from South Africa that the baboons in one district are helping to solve the problem of the "litter lout" (says the "Manchester Guardian"). Even on the spacious veldt, it seems, Sunday trippers persist in leaving untidy reminders of tlieir visits. But h. colony of baboons is "watchful, and the inhabitants early on Monday mornings come down to carry off anything that is left. It is even alleged that these baboons have become so intelligent that they use the discarded paper bags for storage purposes, place the tit-bits carefully in sib*, and then take the package away to the adjacent rocks. It is a pity that we have no wild animals over here "which we could train ito act as similar, unpaid scavengers.
