The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., left for Wellington last evening. Mr. W. Grounds, member of the New . Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board, arrived .in Auckland last night, and is at the Star Hotel. Mr. H. C. McCoy, general manager in Auckland for New Zealand Breweries, Limited, returned to Auckland by the Limited this morning, after a business visit to Wellington. Mr. J. A. Lee, Mr. W. W. Massey, Mr. H. G. R. Mason, Mr. A. J. Stallworthy, Mr. M. J. Savage, Mr. A. Harris, Mr. W. E. Parry and Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P.'s, left for Wellington last evening. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Fuller left Wellington yesterday by car for Auckland. It ie Mr. Fuller's intentino to hold an exhibition off English works of art, such as he has shown in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. Mr. E. J. Guiness, Comptroller of the Stores Department of New Zealand Bailways, and Mr. F. O. Austin, accountant in the Department, arrived by the Limited express this morning. They are making a routine visit to their Department in Auckland. Mr. Guiness is at the Star Hotel. Mr. J. Mac Gibbon, manager in Christchurch for the Bank of New Zealand, who recently retired from' that position, was presented on Wednesday with a canteen of cutlery, a rifle and case, and a silver tea service and tray. The donors represented both town and country interests, and tributes were made to Mr. Mac Gibbon's many fine qualities. Dr. Vaclav Vojtech, a member of the Byrd Antarctic expedition, was drowned as the result of a canoe capsizing near Prague, Czecho-Slovakia, according to advice received by Mrs. Herma Raudnicz, of Hataitai. Dr. Vojtech was well known to many people in the Dominion, particularly in Wellington and Dunedin. He had just accepted an invitation to take part in a Canadian polar expedition by aeroplane. Mr. H. D. Thomson, Under-Secretary of Immigration, has announced his intention of retiring, after 35 years' service with the Government. Mr. Thomson was appointed chief clerk of the Immigation Department when it was established in 1914, and five years after that he became undersecretary. He has held many different appointments in the Government service, and was chairman of the special,committee set up last year to advise the Unemployment Board regarding unemployment among women. Mr. Thomson is perhaps best _ known, however, by virtue of the fact that he was a member of the famous 1905 All Blacks.
