HEROIC ATTEMPT.

WELLINGTON DROWNING CASE,

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

The attempts of two young men to eave a drowning man were commended by the coroner, Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., at the inquest into the death of William Blacklidge, aged 21, who lost his life when a canoe overturned in Evan's.Bay on August 27. Deceased's companion, Mr. Maurice Bennett, and a passer-by, Mr. James Bowman, both entered the water to assist deceased.

The coroner said he wished to commend the two men for the heroic way in which they had attempted to save the drowning man. It was not through any fault of theirs that he lost his life.
