OPERATIONS AT MINE. , SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.' A brief telegraphed summary of »L Waibi Company's operations'for the period ended July 23, has already appeared in these columns. A fuller report,, signed by the superintendent, Mr. H. W. Hopkins has now become available as follows:— ' WAIHI AREA. No 12 Level.—Martha lode (south section, east of Bath crosscut) : The drive was continued to 2GBft. Assay value during the period was low,- ■r-A"> crosscut north and south has been commenced at 201 ft, and the first 4Jft northward assavs 2/6 per ton. Southward 32ft was driven with the following, assay results for the first 20ft sampled (measurements from north side of drive) :—O-4tt, 11/ per ton-4-12ft, 37/8 per ton; 12-20 ft, 9/ per ton' No. 11 (38ft) Sub-level.—Empire lode north section, east of Kingsford crosscut-' Driving was continued to 107Jft, and average assay value from 90ft to 106 ft is 26/ per ton. At 103 ft a crosscut was commenced north and south, and measuring south from the centre of drive,' the first 12ft assays 25/3 per ton, and last ljft on the south wall 9/1 per ton. The north crosscut was driven 38ft. Assay value over the first 32ft is as follows:— 0-Bft, 22/9 per ton; 8-32 ft, 9/9 per ton. The crosscut is being continued.

No. 11 dip: This has beea driven 189 ft, and, measuring vertically, is about 70ft below the level. It is.intended to drive at this depth to the Empire and Edward lodes. Empire lode, north section : A winze was commenced .at a pwnt 42ft east of Bath deviation crosscut, and sunk 715 ft. A crosscut south at 54ft was driven with the object of proving the south part of the lode. A mixture, Bft wide, of very low value, was met at 3Cft. Crossctitting was then stopped and sinking resumed. The width of ore in the winze varies from 2Jft to 4ft wide, of average grade. ■'-<"■

No. 9 (G3ft) Sub-level.—Welcome lode, west of Richard north-west crosscut: The level is being widened for timbers, preparatory to stoping. The. stoping block wilh extend from 12ft east to.about 65ft west of Richard crosscut.

No. 8 (48ft) Sub-level.—Welcome lode, north section: A winze was cqmmenccd at 177 ft west of Hogan's south crosscut, and sunk 35ft. ■ Average assay value to this depth, is 57/3 per ton; 4ft of reef is exposed, no walls being seen.

No; 8 Level.—Welcome lode>. Driving was commenced east at a point 96ft- in No. 2 shaft, north-west crosscut, and carried to 35ft. Average assay value to 20ft is 42/3 per ton. No. '7 (OOft) Sub-level.—Welcome lode: A winze, was commenced at 100 ft: east of Richard north crosscut, and sunk, 43ft Average assay value to 30ft is 85/6 per ton ; 4ft of reef is exposed, no walls, being seen. No. 4 Level.—Surprise lode, west of No. 2 shaft, north-west crosscut: Driving was continued to 2Slft, where work was stopped owing to the value falling. From 209 ft to 260 ft the assay value is 27/9 per ton; from thence onward to the face the quartz is of very little value. GRAND JUNCTION AREA. No. 10 Level (about Junction, No. 6).— Empire lode: The prospecting drive eastward from Kirk soutli crosscut was advanced to 317 ft. At 31oft a crosscut south is being driven, with the obioct of connecting to former workings on Empire lode. A to'rnl of 50ft has been driven. No. 10 (30ft) Sub-level.—lo3ft reef: The breaking of ore in Nelson sloping block was stopped at 58ft up, owing to the sulphide seams petering out.
