Residents rushed into the streets in their night attire when an earth tremor shook the town of Benalla about one o'clock on Tuesday morning. In some homes crockery was broken and articles knocked from the shelves. A noise resembling the report of a gun was heard.

A second tremor at three o'clock of milder nature was also felt at Tatorig, De-vinish. and Thoona.
