Youngsters were prominent in the first roifnd of the "News of the World" £1000 golf tournament at Moor Park, which is regained as a professional championship. W. Peters defeated Mitchell one up, after the ex-holder had missed a twofoot putt. Sidney Fairweather overwhelmed Alliss 5 and 4. Harry Cotton, playing in a downpour, won brilliantly at the eighteenth, where he almost holed his tee shot. Padgham, the holder, beat Walker 5 and 4. James, assistant at Newport, beat George Gadd one up. Duncan, in an exciting finish, h6led a 12yarder, to win after his young opponent, Dalby, had holed a 15yd putt. R. Whitcombe beat Ray 3 and 2.
