TATE DROPS OUT.

Sussex Bowler Resigns from English Test Team. BREAKDOWN AND RELAPSE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 20. Following a relapse to-day M. W. Tate, the Sussex cricketer, informed the Marylebonc Club that he was unable to go to Australia, as he did not believe he would do himself justice. He stated that he needed'a long rest, and therefore regretfully resigned from his place in the English cricket team.

There is general regret at Tate's inability to tour. It is a story of the season's over-strain, beginning with over-training early in the spring.

Sussex County's long battle to head off Yorkshire placed a severe burden oil Tate's shoulders, and ended with his contracting a bad cold at Scarborough, from which he never completely recovered. He developed nervous dyspepsia, precipitating a breakdown. A threohours outing oil Monday brought on a relapse. In view of E. Bowes' selection, it is doubtful if the Marylebone Club will fill the vacancy. Lord Lewisham states that nobody will be selected in Tate's place, as the M.C.C. intended to send only 16 placers until Bowes' last-minute selection.
