Towns Wrecked By Gale of Fierce Velocity. SETTLEMENTS RUINED. RUGBY, September 20. The Secretary of State for the Colonies, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, has received a telegram from the Governor of the Bahamas, Captain B. E. Clifford, reporting that a hurricane swept the colony on September 5. High winds were experienced over a wide area, reaching unprecedented velocity at Abaco Island, whgre the town of Green Turtle Bay was demolished and Hopetown was partially demolished. Three other settlements were practically ruined.

The casualties were: Killed, 14; injured, between 00 and 70, including five drowned in a tidal wave.

The medical position is well in hand. Government aiul private buildings suffered severe damage.
