MAINE ELECTIONS.
SETBACK TO HOOVER. WASHINGTON, September 14. The astounding victory of the Democrats in the. elections at Maine, in which their nominee for the Governorship and two of their three candidates for Congress were- victorious, is regarded as a (sharp setback to Mr. Hoover's chances of re-election as President. • The Democrat leaders are correspondingly confident. The anti-prohibition views of the victorious Democrats have led the "wet" leaders to predict the early repeal of prohibition. The "drys" are silent. Mr. Hoover has telegraphed to the chairman of the Republican campaign urging renewed vigour by the party's workers.
