RADIO PROGRAMMES.

In reply to the letter .by "Wellington" re he boy soprano which appeared in your issue )f Monday the 12th inst., I would like to itate that I am by no means ignorant of the •eal object of the lad's visit to Australia, for [ know full well why he went and -who so 'onerously provided the necessary funds. Any>nc having inside knowledge would not he surprised that Mr. Macdonald, senior, would ippreciate and be satisfied with a contribution "rom 2YA, but was that contribution comnensurate with the true value of the artist, md did it compare with what good judges iffered and paid in Sydney? Not till the lad vas en route for Australia or arrangements vere being made for him to go did the officials if the Broadcasting Board, evince any interest. Che voice had been discovered long before hen, and no effort was made to send him' >n the YA circuit of four stations on a contact that would allow the lad. to bank money ifter the travelling and board expenses of limself and guardian were paid. I certainly lo berate the board for its lack of enterprise md initiative, not only in the case of Lex dacdonald, hut in respect to other artists and ho very mediocre programmes provided. I lave no axe to grind, nor am I a job seeker/ jut I do seek for better entertainment than s being provided by the Broadcasting Board; ny criticism is not intentionally destructive, md that it might be constructive I am willing m request to lodge with you, sir, for your lerusal and consideration, a detailed scheme, vhich would ensure high-grade programme mtertainment which I feel confident would, satisfy the majority and make for an increase >f licenses. For the scheme to be effective he board would require to discard its parsinonious methods and put its house in order n other respects. I fancy I know as much nd probably a little more about the subject if this correspondence as "Wellington," but; eadily appreciate his or her efforts in respect o Lex Macdonald. Till the New Zealand adio programmes improve and the powers mat be wake up I will always be ANGRY.
