" GfIAVE CONSEQUENCES."

(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)

(Received 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, September 14. The stage is set for the Japanese Government's recognition of the new State of Manchukuo. Most elaborate arrangements have been made for celebrating the recognition of Manchukuo in Japan. There will be a monster reception at Tokyo in the public hall, where Cabinet Ministers will speak, popular displays, and parades and lantern processions throughout the country. The signatures arc to be affixed to the historic document at 11 a.m. to-morrow. This will be followed by the appointment of General Muto as Ambassador to the new State. The Japanese Government is fully aware of the grave consequences and repercussions likely to follow this ceremony, but no serious disturbances are anticipated until Sunday. Preparations for a mass demonstration on that day are causing a precautionary mobilisation. It will be the anniversary of the Japanese entry into Manchuria. Although China is still pinning her faith to the League of Nations she will address identic Notes to the League and the signatories of the'nine-Power treaty invoking their aid. If that is not available China will bo compelled to take active steps to recover her territory. Bandit outrages continue in Manchuria, where trains are being derailed almost daily.
