NEW MOTOR VESSEL.
FOR COASTAL TRADE.
LAUNCHED AT FREEMAN'S BAY.
A new motor vessel for the coastal trade was launched from Mr. George Niccol's yard, Freeman's Bay, yesterday afternoon. No name has yet been chosen for the vessel, but she is ready to go into commission immediately, her engines having been installed and masts stepped while she was still on the stocks. Similar in type to other vessels launched by the same builder, the new motor ship is 116 feet long, with a beam of 25 feet, and is designed to carry 250 tons dead weight on a draught of six feet. Two Fairbanks Morse Diesel engines of 100 h.p. each are expected to give her a speed, when fully loaded, of nine knots. For handling cargo she has two Kelvin oil engines, each capable of lifting one ton. •After underging trials the new vessel is to sail on Saturday for Norfolk Island, under the command of Captain R. Anderson, to load fruit for Auckland.
