COMPULSORY CAMPS.
DISAPPROVAL AT GISBORNE.
LARGE PUBLIC MEETING

GISBORNE, Monday
As a sequel to the unrest over married men being drawn in ballot for clearing scrub on backblock farms, a public meeting was held in Gifibornc this evening, there being an attendance of about 1000. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Colcman, M.P., presided. After addresses had been delivered by several speakers, a resolution was carried declaring unconditional disapproval of compulsory camps for relief workers, married or single, and calling upon the Government to restrain the Unemployment Board, and etating that all the volunteers required would be obtained if the Government offered a continuity of employment and a wage commensurate with a fair standard of living.
