ROXY AND TIVOLI. The double-feature programme to be released at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres for a season commencing to-day will feature two new filme, each providing good entertainment. "Madame Julie," which features Lily Damita, one of Europe's most popular stars on both stage and screen, is the story of a modern young Paris modiste's marriage to an opulent and middle-aged widower. As a result of the union the bride has to encounter the unrelenting enmity of her husband's grown-up thereby hangs a tale. Lester Vail ami O. P. Heggie share the main male roles as father and eon, both in love with the same woman. As the daughter of the husband, Miriam Seeger is cast in a convincing role. The cast also boasts Blanche Frederici, Ruth Weston, Anita Louise and Halliwell Hobbes. The other film to open at both theatres is "Fast Companions," first entitled "The Information Kid." It serves as the second featuring vehicle for young Tom Brown, who made such an impression with "Tom Brown of Culver." Maureen O'Sullivan is given her second role since "Tarzan." Mickey Rooney, Andy Devine and "Jimmy" Oleason, all help to provide the comedy of the rollicking picture. Also in the cast are Russell Hopton and Arietta Duncan. The story is a gripping tale of the racecourses, and several thrilling races are included in the production. BEAUTY CONTEST. It is a long time since Atickland lias had the pleasure of witnessing a beauty contest. In fact, it is five years since one was held on a large scale. The Regent Theatre is organising a competition in connection with Friday's new picture, "Beauty and the Boss," featuring Marian Marsh. In this contest, entrants are photographed at the expense of the theatre management, and throughout the selection of the winners no names will be mentioned, judging being by numbered slides on the screen. The many valuable prizes are topped iby a two weeks' holiday in the main North Island towns for the winner. PLAY POSTPONED AT AVONDALE. For unforeseen reasons the mysterydrama "The Kiss of Death," to have been staged in the Avondale Town Hall this evening, will not bo presented until Thursday week. CONCERT AT HOSPITAL. Eleven members of the Neville Carlsen Revue Company entertained the young folk of Princess Mary's Hospital last night with a bright programme of songs, dances, instrumental and humorous numbers. The following contributed items:—Misses J. Tucker, N. Ashdown, J. Trainer, J. Breere, J. Boyd, Messrs. W. Audam, J. O'Kane, F. R. Shaw, L. Porter, E. Parkinson and Master A. Parkinson. COMMUNITY SINGING. Under the auspices of . the Auckland Community Singing Committee, a gathering will be held in the Town Hall tomorrow at 12.30 (p.m., when the collection will 'be devoted to charities. Vocal items will be given by Miss Sybil Phillipps, while Mrs. Barrington Snow will be at the piano.
