MEAT STOLEN.

BURGLARY AT PENROSE. BUTCHER ASTOUNDED. MOST OF STOCK LOST. PIGS, SHEEP AND JOINTS. A raid on a large ecale was carried out by thieves at Penrose last night, when almost the entire stock of meat and small goods in Frederick Birdling's t butchery at Station Road was stolen. IMr. Birdling remained at his shoji until ten o'clock last evening cutting up hie meat, arranging his orders for ' to-day, and also a display of his goods for the window. When lie reached his shop this morning he was astounded to discover that the front door had been smashed and that practically all hitstock of meat had been stolen. A pig, a sheep, 1001b of beef cut up into joints, 501b of steak, 3"01b of veal, 201b of sausages, 141b of cooked ham, several dishes of brawn, and several dozen pies were missing. The thieves used a large jemmy on the front door. Mr. Birdling is a heavy loser uecaifte of the raid on his shop, while his business' was seriously dislocated this morning through his inability to supply his customers. No one appears to have noticed the thieves at work, the shop being rather isolated. So much meat was stolen that a motor vehicle or cart must have been used to carry away the stolen meat.
