HENDERSON NEWS.
A progressive 500 tournament m aid of the Henderson Bowling and Croquet Club was held in the Foresters' Hall on Wednesday night, about 40 members and friends being present. The prizes w ere .wm as follow: Ladies, Mrs. Gordon Chrippes 1, Mise M. Salisbury 2; gentlemen, MX* H. Cutler 1, Mr. Skinner 2. Consolation prizes, Mrs. Sydney Cossey and Mr. Gordon Chrippee. The gueseting competition was won by Mrs. Scott. The members of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Henderson, held a card party, and 500 tournament in the school on .Wednesday night. About 30 persons were present. The proceeds are to be used to reduce the debt on the church and school. The prize winners were as follows: Gentlemen, Mr. A. Garelja 1, Mr. Lukam 2; ladies, Miss May McCormick 1, Miss Alice Norcross 2. ■ The Henderson Young Women s League held ite usual meeting in the Town Halt on Wednesday night, a large number of members, including Mrs. Bond, representative of the youth council, being present. Miss Sybil Bennett, president, occupied the chair. A donation was received from the council to enable the league to start the fair which is to be held for the purposes of raising funds to assist the unemployed youth of the district. It was agreed that a cookery book be published for the same purpose, and the secretary was instructed to obtain quotations for printing the same. A social is to be held shortly to which tho parents and friends of members are to be invited. Miss Eileen Newey and Mi.*s Stella Bond were appointed to attend the next meeting of the council.
It was arranged that Miss Avice Leslie pive a demonstration of raffia work, and Miss Newey one of "smocking" at the next meeting of the league. An interesting play was read by Miss Stella Bond, and the evening was brought to a close by a "surprise supper" provided by some of the members, dancing, competitions and various forms of amusement.
