FOR THE LITTLE ONES

FIRE IN SUNNYTOWN. NEW ENGINE MAKES ITS APPEARANCE. _____________ ADD ANOTHER MODEL TO YOUR COLLECTION. My Dear Little Friends, — "Fire ! Fire:" The dreadful cry rang out in the streets of Spnnytown. Somebody rushed for the nearett fire alarm, bi»t almost before the glass had been broken the screech of a siren was heard and the brand new fire engine came dashing down the street; the smoke had been seen from the lookout tower on the top of the station and the firemen had immediately gone to fight the flames. A benzine store had in some way caught fire, and thick, billowy smoke oozed from the building. Occasionally a drum of oil- would burst with the heat and a spray of flaming liquid would be shot into the air. Without fear, however, the brave firemen began their work and soon some had hoses in full play protecting the wooden houses nearby, whilst others pumped chemical extinguisher into the ruins to help smother the flames. In a very short time the fire was under control, then the engine went back to the station in case it should be needed to go to another outbreak. j> ■ Great praise was given the. firefighters' in the Sunnytown press, and it war, casd that they had put out the oil fire in record time—and the fire brigade had only recently been, formed. ■-. . To the miniature Sunnytown which is being made by model builders the fire brigade station will be a useful! addition. It is by no means difficult to construct and the folding is very easy if the funny figures are studied carefully. t As many telegraph poles as are required may be made by cutting.out the pattern given and tracing round it on to the cardboard or paper from -which you will be making them. One little reader tells me that she has made lamps for Sunshine Street by getting a number of torch bulbs, making cardboard shades for them, then fastening., these to the tops of poles. Perhaps others might copy this idea with good results. /^^S I suppose that' your model villages » _ —*- " ate beginning to look complete now, /C__i' f and no doubt many have already begun their town planning. To one and all *Js^^^**^ I wish every success. '■ •
