Considerable interest was . shown today in the coroner's inquiry into the murderous attack upon Mr. Victor Saywell and his wife on April 22, which resulted in the death of the former and the probable permanent disablement of hie wife, who cannot speak and was not able to attend the inquest. Deceased's son, Jack Say well, was the chief witness. He stated in evidence that he was in the company of a young woman on the night before the tragedy was discovered. Be arrived home at 2.15 a.m. but was not aware that Ms parents had been attacked and were go near death. • A maid discovered the crime when ehe visited their, bedroom at the breakfast hour. Witness said his father lad objected to his keeping company with a Roman Catholic girl, but nothing more than the usual squabbles had occurred. His parents also had objected to him staying out late at night. The inquest wae adjourned at this stage.

Mr. Saywell, of B«llvue Hill, Sydney, wae a well-known solicitor and sportsman. He and hia wife were found in bed on the morning of. April 22, with their heads terribly injured. Apparently they had been struck with a hammer while they \vere asleep. The injured couple were taken to hospital. Each was in a critical condition. Mr. Saywell expired the next night. A blood-stained hammer was' found in an adjoining paddock. Mr. Saywell left an estate valued at over £200,000.
