DEVONPORT BOROUGH.

A meeting of the Devqnport Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, • Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, presiding. Daffodil Day.—Permission was granted to the Navy League to conduct a stall in Devonport to-morrow in connection with "Daffodil Day." m . Old Power House.—The Waitemata Electric Power Board advised that the old power house in Church Street, had been sold, and that possession would be required by October 31. The information was forwarded to the Devonport Welfare League, which uses the building as its headquarters. Emergency Disaster Fund.—A scheme to establish a fund to make provision for future disasters was outlined in a letter from the New Zealand Red Cross Society. —The letter was received, but it was decided not to allow a street appeal in the borough. The Mayor said the idea of the fund was a laudable one, but he thought the time was not opportune. Upper Harbour Improvement.—Mr. E. C Walton, president of the Upper Waitemata Harbour Development Association, explained the association's proposal to construct a causeway below Hobsonville to shorten the route from the North to the North Shore boroughs and the city. The Mayor thanked Mr. Walton, and said the proposed scheme would be considered by the council.
