WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

AWHITIT. On August 18 the ladies of Awliitu. formed a branch of the Women's Institute, at the conclusion of a talk given by Mrs. Irwin, of the Auckland Provincial Federation, on the origin, aim, objects anil great worth of the Women's Institute, especially to country women. The fourth Thursday was the day decided on which to hold the meeting. Mrs. Colbeck, of Awliitu wharf, was unanimously elected president, and Mrs. L. W. Lee as secretary and treasurer. WAITAKARURU. At the monthly meeting, an egg drive for the unemployed was arranged for the September meeting, and Meodanieri Lang and Burdus were elected to go as delegates to the conference. A vote of thanks by acclamation was accorded to Mrs. Jaegar for her interesting demonstration on the carding and spinning of wool. Mrs. Parfltt, who won the prize for the best home-made toy, was also thanked for her kindness in bringing Mre. Jaegar from Kaihere. Afternoon tea was handed around by the hostesses. Mesdames O'Neil, Peters, Moran and Miss Peters. TAHEKE. The meeting of the Talieke Women's Institute Was recently held in the 'aa'.l, when Mrs. Wight presided over a good attendance. Each member brought a garment for a native child. A demonstration of paper pattern-cutting was given by Mrs. Price. A rug made from sugar bags was demonstrated by Mrs. Wolstenholme. Native women gave a haka, which was much appreciated. A musical guessing competition was won by Mrs. Matt Cope. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Bott, Robbing and Maxwell. OMAHA AND PAKIRI. A meeting was held in the Leigh Hall on August 17, Mrs. G. B. White presiding. Mrs. Parr, of TauJioa, gave a report of her visit to Wellington as a delegate to the Dominion Federation Conference of Institutes from the Rodney group. A competition, arranged by Mre. A. Wyatt, was won by Mrs. G. B. White, Mrs. Rogers second prize, and Mrs. J. Meiklejohn and Miss G. Ashton tied for third prize. Mrs. Roke, of Matakana, demonstrated basket-making, and had two beautiful baskets on exhibition. Mesdames Parr and Roke judged the show of articles made from sugar bags. Mrs. Storey won first prize, Mrs. Evans second, Mrs. A. J. Matheson third. Mesdames Whitaker and Waltlen tied for fourth prize. The trading table was well supplied. Mrs. Bathgate gave the motto. The hostesses for the afternoon were Meedaines J. Dunning, D. A, Matheson, R. D. Matheson, and L. Collins.
