LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

ROOPE ROOSTER SEMI-FINAL. SENIOR PLAYERS CAUTIONED. Principal interest in this week's meeting of the Auckland Rugby League, held last evening instead of Wednesday next, centred in the draw for the second round of the Roope Rooster knock-out. It resulted in the first round bye teams, Marist arid Devonport, being drawn to meet ae the principal attraction for the week-end, and City and Ponsonby as the other teams to meet in the semi-final. Stevens and Lunn, the Ponsonby players ordered off on Saturday in the PonsoubyNewton match, appeared and explained their conduct. They said the game was hard and hotly contested in the rucks, and regretted what had occurred. The referee's report also was considered, and it was decided to administer a severe caution. St. George, the Newton player, was suspended until he appears before the League. The Ponsonby club, in connection with its suspension of the reserve grade coach, F. C. White, referred the management for evidence of the offence to White's letter admitting having advised and ordered certain team members in refusing to play in the top team. The suspension waa confirmed.

BUSINESS OF REFEREES.

At the meeting of the Referees' Association last evening, when Mr. L. Bull presided, some comment was made on the duties of linesmen, both with regard to positions taken up and signals given for goal kicks, and to assisting the referee to maintain control of the game. Motions of condolence were recorded to the relatives of the late Messrs. W. N'. Wynyard (Devonport) and O. Poison (Ponsonby), and also to Mr. H. Soloman (president of the Point Chevalier Club) in the loss of his wife. The grading and appointments committee submitted the new regrading list in accordance with a recent request of the general meeting of members.
