B STATIONS.
Ifi the B stations close down small-set owners will have to be content, or I should perhaps say discontented, with the programmes from IYA. It is not my intention to cast aspersions en the staff of IYA, but experience has taught us that any services under Government or municipal control, whether administered by boards or not, are subject to cast-iron regulations which do not allow of any freedom of action, and it is not likely that the broadcasting service will be an exception to the rule. On the other hand, the B stations endeavour to please the listeners, they even invite fair criticism with the object of ascertaining listeners' tastes, and are certainly providing a- real service. Station IZR is on the air approximately 50 hours each week, against lYA's 40 hours, and is justly entitled to a subsidy. If this station can be retained by forming a club with a membership of 5000 at a membership fee of 2/6 per annum it will be well worth while, even though it means that listeners are paying again to retain a service for which they have already paid and which they are justified in expecting the board to retain for them. It is to be hoped that the board will eventually come to realise that listeners consider the B stations necessary and would like to see them rewarded. FIVE VALVES.
