OTAHUHU BOROUGH.
At the weekly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presided. Time Off for Relief Workers.—The Otahuhu Relief Workers' Association requested that the men be allowed half an hour in the morning to seek work :it the freezing works. It was pointed out that the men had to wait around the gates until 8 a.m., and so were unable to start the borough work at 7.45. The request wa*> referred to the works committee, which will endeavour to arrange for the men to make up the time lost in seeking work. Band Subsidy.—A request from the band for an advance of subsidy of £12 10/. which was not due until the end of September, was refused. Beautifying.—The Great South Road Beautifying Council was granted £2 ?/ to enable further improvements to be commenced. The council also voted £15 Tor street tree planting. Rates.—The town clerk reported that the new unimproved value of the borough rf r '%difo G Qn 760 -n-;' Ki " nsfc the old valuation of £414280. The exempted capital value was 655, and exempted unimproved value £33.655 Tho council adopted a rate of 9%d in the £ on the nnimnrovsd value, tins being a reduction of 3-16 d. Work For Ratepayers.—The works committee reported that they were choosing men from the unemployed list whose rates were in arrears, for the repairing of the Great South Road shoulders, on condition that they agreed to pay a portion, of their' wages off their rates. Tender.—R. and R. Duder'g tender for pipes for the TamaM Drainage, at a cont of £1073, less 20 per cent, was accepted.
