ALPINE SPORT.
ATTRACTION FOR TOURISTS. AUSTRALIAN IN AUCKLAND. One of the leaders in Australian alpine eport, Mr. T. W. Mitchell, of Melbourne, arrived in Auckland by the Aorangi this morning, and will take part in the ski-ing tournament at National Park, He is accompanied by Mr. S. G. Tennant, a member of the British Ski-ing Club, which has a membership of over 4000. > The value of the sport as a tourist attraction was stressed by Mr. Mitchell, who mentioned that his visit was partly one of good will. He would endeavour to promote visits between Australian and Dominion teams, Australia was sending a team of six, three men and three women, to the international contests at Innsbruck, Austria, next February, a fact which would draw attention to the alpine playgrounds of Australia, the best known of which is on the Kosciusko range, in New South Wales. Mr. Mitchell stated that an additional wing was being added to the 'chalet, situated 12 miles up the range from the Kosciusko Hotel. Another accommodation house was to be erected between the two Smiggins to cater for the day excursionists and those who did not wish to make the more strenuous trip to the mountain top, 7327 ft above sea level.
