Trans-Atlantic Flyer Crashes In America. DESCENT IN WOOD. (Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 10. A message from Springfield (Maes.) states that Russell Boardnmn, the transAtlantic flyer, was seriously injured on Tuasday afternoon when a 'plane he

was trying out crashed into the woods near here from a height of 2000 feet. He was in a semi-conscious conditioa when taken to the hospital.

Russell Boardman and John Polando, two airmen of Boston, Massachusetts, starting from New York on July 28, 1931, flew non-stop to Constantinople, a distance of 4984 miles, in 49 hours 8 minutes. They beat the 1929 record set up from Pari.s to Mukden by the Frenchman Costes and Bellonte. This was 4940 miles. Boardman and Polando were entertained by the American Consul in Constantinople, Mr. Grew, and left later for Marseilles by air, having a narrow escape horn being forced down on the way by a storm over the Mediterranean.
