WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

PAENGAROA. The Paengaroa Women's Inetitute held a meeting on August 12, the afternoon being devoted to a demonstration on dressmaking by Mrs. G. Mends. The hostesses were Mesdames Stokes, MacDonald and MacKenzie. GLENFIELD. The first meeting of the newly-formed Glenfield Women's Institute was held a', Glenfield on August 10. Mrs. Dyer occupied the chair and addressed the meeting. Mrs. Tattam demonstrated the renovation of old felt hats, with much success, also the making of lampshades. She was assisted by Mesdames Douee and Lambly. The hostesses were Mesdames Douse and Edwards. ORATIA. There was a good attendance at the last meeting of the institute, and members were very interested in demonstrations on rug-making and wool-work, by members of the staff of Milne and Choyce. The competitions were well contested, and some good exhibits were displayed. Three members were in charge of the afternoon tea arrangements.

KUMEU. A meeting was held in Kumeu Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Bebich gave a demonstration in the uses of wool, from spinning to the finished articles, and some beautiful hand-woven rugs were shown. Mr. Shaw entertained the members with a talk on personal reminiscences of pioneering days. The scone competition was won by Mrs. Davis and Miss Harrison. .The hostesses for the afternoon, Mrs. Pcarman, and Misses Wright, Gooding and S. Gooding, served a dainty afternoon tea, after which recipes were given by Mesdames Bell, Newlove and Dane. WAIUKU. There was a good attendance at the past students' dance, held last week, visitors from all parts of the district being present. Extras were given by Miss U. Hull and Mr. R. Bulte. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss P. Elmsley and Mr. R. Bush. The children's fancy dress ball held at Aka Aka, in aid of the school dental clinic funds, was an unqualified success. The secretary, Mr. J. K. Hull, returned thanks to all who assisted in any way. Mr. Kiteon explained the object of the effort, and outlined the work of the dental clinic. He also congratulated the teachers and pup'ls on their performance.
