BAKERS TO GO TO ENGLAND. NEWSPAPER ADVERTISEMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARUNCJI, this day. When John Bright Austin, aged 58, was charged 'at Taumarunui with false pretences, the police eaid he had advertised in some city papers for a number of takers to go to England and work for a large firm of bakers. Accused, it was stated, received 183 replies, and circularised the applicants requesting each to forward a New Zealand £1 note to cover the cost of cable. Applicants were instructed to write for full particulars to J. Oiskin, Manunui, North Island. The police alleged that the scheme was fraudulent.

Accused was remanded to appear at Wanganui on August 10.
