INSANITY PLEA.

SUPPORT BY DOCTOR.

MURDER OF CHILD.

FRANK livxrmore on trial.

EVIDENCE FOR DEFENCE.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

When the trial was resumed in the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Reed and a jury, of Horace Frank Liverniore, a labourer, aged 20, on a charge of murdering Vera Margaret Forster, aged 4J, the Crown Prosecutor said he would close his case subject to being allowed to call evidence in rebuttal, if it was thought necessary, of medical evidence for the defence.

Prisoner's record when he was under the care of the Child Welfare Department was put in, and it was admitted by the Crown that Livermore's mother died in a mental hospital, in 1917.

Evidence was given by Dr. D. H. Fer.iwick, who said he was satisfied that Liverinore was certifiable, and had been certifiable for some time prior to the act with which he was charged. He based his opinion on three things, his demeanour throughout the examination of the witnesses, his statements to witness or conversation with him, and his history. Witness gave evidence in detail as to why he reached his conclusion that Livermore definitely was insane.

(Proceeding.)
