STEAMER AUPOURI SOLD.
WELL-KNOWN COASTER,
VESSEL TO BE BROKEN UP.
Another of the Northern Steam Ship Company's steamers, the Aupouri, has been sold to be dismantled and broken up. For several years the vessel has been at anchor in Shoal Bay. She has been acquired by Mr. J. McKee, of Mount Eden, who bought the Rimu, another of the Northern Company's old vessels, earlier in the week.
The Aupouri was built for the Northern Steam Ship Company at Port Glasgow in 1005. She is a vessel of 463 gross tons, is 152 ft long, with a beam of 27ft. On coming to New Zealand the Aupouri was engaged in the East Coast passenger and freight trade, although on several occasions she took up the role of relieving steamer on the West Coast, and traded as far South as Wanganui. This was her last commission before she was permanently withdrawn.
With the growth of the motor transport business in the Auckland province the. Aupouri had to be laid up, and joined a number of other Northern Company's-steamers in Rotten Row.
